The expansion of social platforms, and especially the ability to broadcast live on Instagram, has paved the way for new patterns of aggressive behavior among adolescents, which are carried out in the form of “artificial violence” with the aim of attracting attention, increasing the audience, or gaining media benefits. Although these dramatic behaviors are ostensibly carried out for the purpose of entertainment and attracting attention, they can violate the dignity and psychological security of individuals and disrupt public cyber order. The present study, with a qualitative approach and content analysis method, has identified behavioral patterns of artificial violence through non-participatory observation of Instagram live broadcasts of adolescents aged 15 to 20. The findings show that artificial violence is not a one-dimensional phenomenon, but rather a network of interconnected actions that expands in interaction with the relative anonymity of users, algorithms that enhance interactive content, and the logic of the attention economy. In Iranian society, cultural constraints and the lack of safe spaces where emotions can be released exacerbate this situation, turning cyberspace into a free space with low costs of violence and immediate rewards. The end result is that effectively curbing artificial violence requires a shift from purely restrictive solutions to a multi-level approach that simultaneously pursues individual empowerment, the reconstruction of group norms, and the reform of platform structures. Accordingly, effectively confronting this phenomenon requires the adoption of a preventive criminal policy in the field of social media; a policy that, while paying attention to legislative and judicial capacities, emphasizes the promotion of media and legal literacy of users and the responsibility of platforms.
