This study examines the representation of the personality of Ali Asghar Boroujerdi, known as “Asghar the Killer,” in the book Aboulhol e Jenayat (The Sphinx of Crimes) and explores its relationship with Jean Pinatel’s theory of criminal personality. The main issue of the research is to identify the personality traits reflected in the narrative of the book and to analyze how meaning is produced through its dominant discourse, without making prior assumptions about the real motives or psychological condition of the accused. The importance of this investigation lies in the fact that the Boroujerdi case, in addition to being recognized as one of the documented examples of serial killings in Iran, provides through its literary and narrative representation an opportunity to examine the relationship between crime, the criminal’s personality, and the narrative construction of crime.Accordingly, the central research question is formulated as follows: How are the personality traits of Ali Asghar Boroujerdi represented in the narrative of Aboulhol e Jenayat, and what relationship does this representation have with the indicators of Pinatel’s criminal personality theory? The aim of the study is to analyze the dominant discourse of the book in portraying the murderer and to examine the extent to which this portrayal corresponds with the components of criminal personality, in order to clarify how the image of the criminal is constructed and stabilized within the text. This research adopts a qualitative and analytical approach, employing Laclau and Mouffe’s critical discourse analysis and comparing the findings with the indicators of Pinatel’s theory. The research data consist of the narrative of the book as well as historical and journalistic sources related to the Boroujerdi case. The analysis is conducted through identifying key signifiers, chains of equivalence, and the process of subject stabilization within the text.
