Freedom of expression, as a fundamental human right, is articulated in the Holy Qur’an within a framework of ethical guidelines and social responsibility. This study, employing a descriptive-analytical method and drawing upon Qur’anic verses and authentic narrations, reexamines the Qur’anic foundations of freedom of expression and aligns them with the ethical imperatives of contemporary media. The findings indicate that while the Qur’an acknowledges the right to express opinions, it simultaneously emphasizes ethical constraints (such as avoiding slander, desecration of sacred beliefs, and dissemination of falsehoods) and social responsibilities (including respect for privacy, preservation of human dignity, and the reinforcement of societal cohesion). In its comparative section, the study illustrates how these Qur’anic principles can serve as a theoretical framework for addressing ethical challenges in modern media—such as the spread of fake news, violations of privacy in digital spaces, and inflammatory discourse. By presenting a Qur’an-based model of responsible freedom of expression, the article suggests that contemporary media systems can achieve a sustainable balance between freedom of expression and public ethics through the integration of these religious principles with modern professional standards.
